Many Utahns might not know that most individuals with special needs are segregated from their neighborhood friends and typical peers and forced to go to separate schools. While there are many reasons that the school systems have created this environment, sadly, it goes against the best research and best practices for helping these special needs students. And importantly, it robs these students of the opportunity to attend public school with their friends and neighbors who also miss out on the opportunity to grow through their interactions with these amazing kids.
